Below (and on the other ordering page) is a list of books and CDs that we carry. We consider these books to be the most refined, inspirational, and masterful teachings we've found about various aspects of sustainable and holistic living. There are a few novels and autobiographies, but most are extremely practical teachings that you can apply in your own life. We hope you find value in them.

"Bravo! This is what we need – an integrated vision that spans the chasm between environmentalists and spiritual practitioners. GaiaYoga is a well-rounded, mature form of human life, which I urge everyone to aspire to and begin practicing. Anything less will be incomplete."
– Steve Plocher, C.P.A.

Instinctive Eating: The Lost Knowledge of Optimum Nutrition,
by Zephyr, Pan Piper Press, 1996. Softback, $15. (Bulk discounts available).

"I am truly transfixed by your book. You have hit on some of the fundamental truths of nature, and your writing is so humorous and full of love. By living your truth, you may be paving the way for the survival of humanity. What you are doing and communicating has profound implications, beyond your own life."

We Want To Live: Volume One, Out of the Grips of Death and Disease (the story) & Volume Two, Healthfully (the facts),
by Aajonus Vonderplanitz, Carnelian Bay Castle Press, 1997, Hardback, $30.

This is Aajonus' shaman-like story of healing himself and others through raw foods. His understanding – based on personal experience, observation of his clients, intuition, instincts, and ultimately, results – is very much in harmony with the wisdom of Instinctive Eating, yet includes other insights that seem to be of great benefit for modern people who are trying to heal from very unnatural circumstances. A fascinating story, coupled with a great deal of practical dietary advice.

"Aajonus is creating some of the most significant knowledge in the Healing Arts today. His contributions will stand with other great pioneers, like Dr. Max Gerson, Dr. Weston Price, Vihjalmur Stefansson, Ph.D., and Dr. Bernard Jensen."
– Dr. John Finnegan, N.D., Author of The Facts About Fat and Recovery From Addiction

Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats, by Sally Fallon, New Trends Publishing, Inc., 1999, Softback, $25.

Based on Weston Price's research into indigenous diets around the world that supported superb health, this book suggests that our modern food choices and preparation techniques are severely compromising our health and vitality, and may indeed destroy us. Sally offers nutritional guidelines side-by-side with recipes for preparing food that incorporate health-promoting techniques used for generations in traditional cuisines. Highly informative and enjoyable to read.

Nourishing Traditions is more than a cookbook—it's an education that will lead you to "cook with pride," as you will know that you are giving your family the proper nourishment for a lifetime of vigorous good health. Now that is the real "joy of cooking!" — William Campbell Douglass, MD, author of The Milk Book

Transplant-Shock Therapy: The Poetic Pilgrimage of a Suburban Refugee, by Zephyr Ano Tarletz, Pan Piper Press, 2000, Homemade and hand-bound, $20.

A complete collection of Ano’s song lyrics and poems (about 85 altogether). Most of these expressions articulate rites of passages and evolutions into new understandings and ways of being, with moods and voices that are subterranean, humorous, rough, sophisticated, intimate, loving, angry, liberated, and transformational.

Designed to be thought-, feeling-, and action-provoking. Check it out, you’ll be pleasantly shocked.

Peace Between The Sheets: Healing with Sexual Relationships, by Marnia Robinson, Frog, Ltd., 2002, Softback, $16.

This controversial book is based on the premise that conventional sex is largely controlled by brain chemicals from our "primitive brain" that have been highly successful in maintaining survival of the species, but are actually undermining to sustaining high-quality intimate relationships. Marnia recommends a strikingly different approach to sexuality that generates open-hearted connectedness and bonding in couples. Features a three-week, step-by-step program of "Ecstatic Interchanges" for couples to gently yet directly transition from old patterns to this new form of sexuality.

The Multi-Orgasmic Man: How Any Man Can Experience Multiple Orgasms and Dramatically Enhance His Sexual Relationship, by Mantak Chia and Douglas Abrams, Harper San Francisco, 1997, Softback, $15.

This practical, well-researched book is enjoyable to read and humorous. It's based on the Taoist understanding that orgasm and ejaculation are two separate events, and shows men how to have non-ejaculatory orgasms. The clear, step-by-step exercises help increase sexual prowess, as well as overall health and vitality.

"It really works! I have more pleasure, more energy, and a whole new realm to explore. I now understand much more the female orgasm, as it seems quite similiar to the new kind of non-ejaculatory orgasm I'm having.... and I haven't even finished the book!" — Ano Tarletz

The Multi-Orgasmic Couple: Sexual Secrets Every Couple Should Know, by Mantak Chia, Maneewan Chia, Douglas Abrams, and Rachel Carlton Abrams , Harper SanFrancisco, 2000, Paperback, $17.

This is an easy to understand and practical guide to sacred Taoist sexual practice, co-written by a Western and an Eastern couple. It contains step-by-step techniques for levels of sexual pleasure, intimacy, and healing that many couples may not have known were possible.

"This book is a fine place to begin for anyone seeking a Taoist approach to sexual intimacy. It helps bring an ancient school of thought to the modern bedroom." — Paul Jannides, author of Getting it On!

Waking Down: Beyond Hypermasculine Dharmas - A Breakthrough Way of Self-Realization in the Sanctuary of Mutuality, by Saniel Bonder, Mt. Tam Awakenings, Inc., 1998. Paperback, $15.

The most accessible and empowering teaching we know of on spiritual realization. Saniel presents a very well articulated process of awakening to our inherent nature as infinite, unlimited Consciousness while fully embracing our reality as embodied, mortal, and limited human beings.

"Saniel Bonder is unusual in that he both respects and values worldwide traditions of religion and spirituality, while at the same time recognizing and articulating how they have failed to fulfill the human longing for release from suffering and limitation. His description of his own enlightenment, and the path to enlightenment he recommends for others, is refreshingly down to earth and human. Never before have I read such a direct account of spiritual awakening that is both human and immediate, yet philosophically profound and encompassing of the human condition. I wholeheartedly recommend this practical manual for spiritual growth."

Of Water And The Spirit: Ritual, Magic, and Initiation in the Life of an African Shaman, by Malidoma Patrice Somé, Penguin Compass, 1994, Softback, $14.

Among the Dagara people of Burkina Faso (West Africa) there is no distinction between the natural and the supernatural: individuals speak with ancestral spirits, and those with the proper knowledge routinely travel to other worlds. Malidoma was born in a Dagara village, only to be abducted as a small boy and taken to a Jesuit mission school, where for fifteen years he was harshly indoctrinated in Eurpoean ways of thought and worship. When he returned to his people, he had to undergo an initation so rigorous that it might have killed him. This book is the story of his early life, his reintigration with his people, and the profound process he went through in initiation.

"Here is a man who has experienced [ancient initiation] in our time. The spiritual depth of African culture becomes clear."
— Robert Bly

The Healing Wisdom Of Africa: Finding Life Purpose through Nature, Ritual, and Community, by Malidoma Patrice Somé, 1999, Softback, $15.

Malidoma Somé is a medicine man and elder of the Dagara tribe of West Africa and husband of Sobonfu Somé. Educated by Western missiouaries, he returned to his people as a young adult to receive initiation and learn of his destiny to carry his people's wisdom to the West.

The Healing Wisdom of Africa is a fascinating journey through the traditonal life and practices of Africa. It is a powerful depiction of the Dagara's relationship to Spirit, community, nature, and the role ritual plays in their lives (as well as the role it can play for seekers in the West).

"Profoundly wise and fascinating . . . Malidoma Somé has delivered an incomparably meaningful gift to us wanderers and seekers in the West. . . the Healing Wisdom of Africa means the ancestors still care about us, and want to help us grow. They have sent Malidoma far from home to remind us where home is."
     Alice Walker

The Spirit Of Intimacy: Ancient African Teachings in the Ways of Relationships, by Sobonfu E. Somé, Quill, 1997, 2002 Paperback, $11

Sobonfu Somé, like her husband Malidoma, is a person who understands both the ways of her indigenous people, the Dagara, and those of the Western world. This book offers holistic medicine to Westerners. It looks deeply into the cause of imbalance and reocurring problems in relationship and life altogether. But instead of offering the kind of psychology and self-help that most teachings offer, Sobonfu turns us in an entirely different direction - to the necessity of community, ritual, and spirit for balancing and guiding our selves and our relationships.

"There is much wisdom about relationship here. Sobonfu Somé generously applies subtle knowledge from her West African culture to this one. Simply to read what she has to say — about community, ritual, marriage, and intimacy — is to find something fresh and healthy for one's own life."
- Robert Bly, author of Iron John

Infant Communication: Raising Babies Without Diapers... and More, by Natec, Pan Piper Press, 2001. Booklet, $6.

Natec is a good friend of ours who has written this informative booklet about being intimately attuned and in communication with a baby. She clearly describes how to recognize a baby's signals for elimination, so you can help the baby urinate or defecate into a spot of your choosing. Imagine the savings in diapers and washing, and even more importantly, the incredible intimacy generated between the baby and the parent, relative, or friend.

"After reading this book, I really got a great awareness on the communication my child was giving me. Happily the elimination timing focus expanded to food, sleep and play. I am grateful that this book was place in my hands."
– Connie Cheever, Mother, Pahoa, Hawaii
